Starting With a New Estate Plan
Ladies, did you know that during your separation as well as after your divorce is final, that one of the most important steps you must take care of immediately is to have a new estate plan? Do you really want your ex-spouse to be able to make medical decisions for you or have the power to end your life? Of course you don’t. Why would you even think about this part? After all…you are grieving.
Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, a Swiss American psychiatrist in her 1969 book On Death and Dying developed the five stages of grief as Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance. Mental health professionals have long agreed that the grief we experience after the loss of a loved one mirrors the grief women experience during a separation and after they are divorced.
Breaking Through the Storm
Yes, I have been blessed to never have been divorced. But I have borne the weight of losing someone I loved, too often. The loss of my uncle was my “storm”. The storm before his passing was the very reason, with purpose and intent, that I built a practice that crushes all the stereotypes of how law firms are perceived to be. You can read my personal story here.
I have held the hands of hundreds of clients in the immediate months (sometimes days) following the death of their loved one in guiding them through settling their estates. I have cried with divorced women who found the courage somehow to ask me to help with their planning now that they were starting over solo.
Right now, you may be scared or confused or angry or lost and alone. You may be afraid to ask for help with this next crucial step or not even really know what to ask help for.
You come as you are!!
I pass no judgment.
I make no conclusions other than I know you are an amazingly strong woman.
I want to support you in taking control of your life because only you are the best qualified to do that.
I want YOU to be empowered.
I want YOU to control your own finances.
I want YOU to choose who helps you.
I want YOU and ONLY YOU dictating these decisions.
You have weathered one of the biggest storms in your life alone. Let me be your calm after the storm.
